On November 3 in 2004, Japan’s first government operated bonsai exhibition facility opened in the form of a bonsai garden in the grounds of the Japanese garden at Showa Kinen Park. This bonsai garden is a facility where mainly bonsai of a class worthy of the history and tradition of The Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition are displayed. It has broad appeal across age groups, especially in the study zone where the process of creating bonsai is explained so that even beginners can easily understand.
At the heart of the exhibition are 61 bonsai masterpieces of The Kokufu Bonsai Exhibition class that have been donated by fanciers from across the country with the assistance of the Nippon Bonsai Association (Corp). Seasonal bonsai exhibitions regularly take place in the garden, while large scale temporary exhibitions are held in the Japanese garden to make best use of the lawn and the Kanfu-tei teahouse.
